How to get to Honey Run Boulders.

Posted on 12:42 PM, under

Ok, there has been some interest in how to get to Honey Run. Here it is. 10855 Hazel Dell Rd. From Mount Vernon take 36 towards Howard. Turn left onto Bridge rd (junction 62) turn right onto 62, go under overpass take first left onto Hazel Dell Rd. parking lot is a little over a mile on the left. It takes about 10-15 minutes from Mt Vernon. The boundaries to the park are posted pretty clearly. The problems I've been working on are to the left of the falls( follow trail to right of parking lot and cross stream at base of water fall, then up hill). and some more advanced problems go downhill to left of parking lot and a little to the left about 20-30 feet from road. have fun and post comments/pictures on the facebook fan site!

Honey Run, left of falls problem.

Working on a problem left of falls. Overhanging, dry with a very good landing area. Not a bad picture considering my 4 year old took it. Several problems including a long traverse are possible at this location with a wide range of ratings.

Those of you who are new to this site, please take the survey's above. This is the first step in getting a local bouldering gym in our area! Send me any comments or thoughts you might have about the gym topic; what sort of features you would like to see in a gym, location, etc. You can always email @ mountvernonbouldering@gmail.com or post a comment on the Fan site wall.

Hunting season

Posted on 8:51 AM, under

Now that the leaves are fallen, it's much easier to view the landscape. As you drive around keep your eyes open for potential new bouldering spots. If you find some send me an email detailing where it is and we can start the process of gaining access. Just be careful this time of year as hunters will be in the woods. It seems like the most likely areas are near streams where ledge has been exposed or on steep hillsides. Happy hunting!

I just found out that there will be two outdoor boulders installed at Wolf Run park in Mount Vernon in the coming weeks ahead. This is exciting news and we look forward to this welcome addition.
Stay tuned for more news!

Honey Run Boulders

The most accessible and public area for bouldering is Honey Run. It is linked in the margin through Knox county parks site. This area is undeveloped and I really encourage anyone who checks it out to be respectful of the park rules as well as other visitors just there to enjoy the waterfall. This is a beautiful site and deserves being enjoyed in a respectful way. Please stay on the trails and take out what you bring in. Email me for any more information!

Enjoy! John
